Admission


Registration
The Marie Curie School in Neuroscience is reserved to students pursuing a Phd, Postdoctoral Researchers, or young Faculty in Neuroscience or a related field of study (Psychology, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, etc.).
Students who wish to apply for participation should send their CV, statement of interest in the program and 1 letter of recommendation to mariecurieschool@brainsynch.org.

Please send all required admission materials in an email with the subject - "Last Name, First Name - Marie Curie School" - and make sure to include a current telephone number, email address and institutional affiliation. The personal statement should be a brief (fewer than 3 pages) introduction to your scientific interests and your motivation to participate in the Marie Curie School - “ Large-Scale Interactions in Brain Networks and their Breakdown in Brain Diseases”.

Applicants will be selected based on merit, field of research and in order to nurture a well-balanced and diverse group of students according to geographic location and gender. Students should submit a poster abstract of 300 words, outlining an area of current work which they would like to present at the School's Poster Sessions. The abstract should include a descriptive title, list of authors, affiliations, aims, methods, any preliminary results and conclusions.

Deadline for application is December 31st. Applications recieved after the deadline will not be considered for participation in the school.
Applicants will be informed of the decisions reached by the selection committee by January 15th.


Participation in the Marie Curie School includes :

  1. Participation in all sessions from March 26th to March 30th, 2008; including tutorials, Meeting kit including the final programme and the abstract book;
  2. Hotel accommodation on full-board basis from the dinner of March 26th to the breakfast of March 31st;
  3. Participation in evening social events;
  4. half day tour of the national park surrounding the school;
  5. attendance certificate;
  6. group transfer on March 26th from Rome Fiumicino or Pescara airports to Santo Stefano di Sessanio and on March 31st from Santo Stefano di Sessanio to Rome Fiumicino and Pescara Airport.

Cost
The school, room and board is free of cost to all attendees, with the exception that travel expenses and the optional social event must be paid.

Hotel Accommodation
Students will be accommodated in bed and breakfast apartments located within walking distance from the School venue.
Students who wish to stay in single rooms at the Sextantio diffuse hotel should pay an extra of euros 35,00 per night (total euros 175,00).
Hotel reservation will be possible only after receiving the confirmation of participation. All relevant information will be provided by the Organising Secretariat.

Travel
Students must provide for their own travel expenses to and from Rome Fiumicino or Pescara airports.
The School organization will take care of the ground transfer on March 26th from Rome Fiumicino or Pescara airports to Santo Stefano di Sessanio and on March 31st from Santo Stefano di Sessanio to Rome Fiumicino Airport.
The bus journey to/from Santo Stefano di Sessanio takes about 2,5 hours; the information about the exact timetable of shuttle departures will be sent together with the confirmation of participation.

Official language
The official School language is English.
No translation service will be provided.

Letter of invitation – Visa application
EU citizen require only a passport of national identity card to stay in Italy for as long as they need.
Students from other countries are advised to contact their nearest Italian Embassy or Consulate regarding Visa rules and regulations.
Upon request, the chairman of the School will be pleased to send a personal letter of invitation to enable students to obtain supporting funds or Visas to attend the School.
This letter cannot be considered as an offer of financial support.

Climate and clothing
Santo Stefano di Sessanio is located at an altitude of 1250 metres deep in the heart of the Apennine mountains. The weather in March is usually still cold (min. -5C° max +10C°).
According to the life-style of the area it is highly recommended to wear comfortable and casual clothing and practical footwear.
